There’s something so irresistible about a fried cheese appetizer that there aren’t many people who could resist these crispy, yet gooey morsels. Once you take a bite of this fritter, the wonderfully cheesy inside filled with Sargento® Shredded Mozzarella - Fine Cut, salami, olives and chilies oozes out and creates a sensational balance between crunch and melt.

Ingredients
  • Vegetable or peanut oil for frying
  • 1-1/2 cups (6 oz.) Sargento® Shredded Mozzarella - Fine Cut
  • 1/4 lb. hard salami, minced
  • 1/4 cup Spanish olives with pimientos, minced
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
Directions
  1. Heat 3 inches vegetable or peanut oil to 375 degrees F in deep fryer or deep saucepan.
  2. In medium bowl, combine next 6 ingredients. Form mixture into 16 walnut-sized balls.
  3. In separate medium bowl, mix together remaining ingredients. The batter should be very thick. Carefully dip each ball into the fritter batter. Deep fry fritters, a few at a time, until golden brown. repeat until all are cooked. They will brown VERY quickly so keep an eye on them. Drain on paper towel-lined plate.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F. Put fritters on baking sheet and bake 10 minutes. Serve warm.
